FA Level 1, studying FA Level 2
Ben played a lot of football from a young age, representing Canterbury and St. Augustines District Side between 1990 and 1994, and playing at County Level in 1993. He was also fortunate enough to be invited to train with Chelsea’s Youth Academy during that period. These days he now plays locally in the Canterbury and District Leagues.
Early experience gained from coaching a local U12s side in 1997, he later went on to study Sports Science at Nene College (now UCN) in Northampton where he developed a stronger interest in the coaching side of the game. He gained further experience coaching one of the University teams to the divisional title, which is a very memorable achievement for Ben. It was not until much later after playing football locally that he followed up this interest in the coaching and training side, teaching a Sport and Exercise module at a Pupil Referral Unit in Dartford, Kent.
Ben has always been interested in the tactical side of the game and a clear vision of the way that he believes football should be played and coached. At a young age Ben was inspired by the great Liverpool team of the 1980s who played in triangles and adopted ‘one-two’ touch football in such an effective way. This forms the basis of his ideology on coaching children and young people.
Ben represent Premier Coaches on board MV Azura in 2010, spending six weeks on board in Summer coaching 5 - 17 year olds across 3 age groups. He received some excellent feedback that year from both youth and entertainment departments highlighting his professionalism and superb attention to detail. The parents and children all enjoyed his style of training and he regularly had good numbers to work with.
After taking a year out of football coaching and travelling parts of the world, we are now delighted to see Ben return and start coaching again. Ben will be on board MV Azura during the Summer of 2012 and we look forward to hearing your comments.
