Whilst playing for the club she gained valuable experience by training at the Derby County Academy.

During her time at secondary school, and playing for the school team Sam also started to assist in coaching the younger age groups. This is when she first realised that she wanted to peruse a career in coaching and the development of young people. After she completed her GCSE's Sam decided to focus on sport and to study for a BTEC National Diploma in sports coaching and development at her local college. She is now in her final year of and has been offered a place at the University of Birmingham to do Sport, Physical Education and Coaching Science, starting October 2011.

Whilst attending her college years she has started to gain different coaching and leadership qualifications, including her FA Level 1. Sam is now in the process of coaching regularly to gain the experience needed to complete her FA Level 2.

Sam experienced her first cruise during the summer of 2011 where she received excellent feedback from the Youth Director on board MV Ventura. The experience will be valued and she now looks forward to her next opportunity.
